On 8 August at 1727, TC 911 dispatched CHFD for a structure fire on Warren Rd. The working fire dispatch included CHFD, Lansing for 1 engine, and Ithaca for 1 engine. Immediately afterwards, dispatch advised 262 (Abbinanti) that a sheriff's deputy was on scene reporting heavy smoke and fire. 262 requested Dryden's FAST Team to the scene as well as NYSEG. 263 (Wolf) arrived on scene shortly before 202 and took command of the two-story multi-family apartment building with smoke showing. Upon arrival, the bulk of the fire had been knocked down by a neighbor who subsequently suffered from smoke inhalation. Crews from 202 pulled a line, hit the hydrant, and began overhauling and searching the fire apartment. 231 and Lansing Fire personnel arrived shortly therafter and assisted 202's crew with ventilation, forcible entry of other apartments and securing the utilities. The neighbor was treated for symptoms of smoke inhalation by 241 and refused transport to the hospital. This was the only injury to civilians or fire personnel. All mutual aid units were returned shortly thereafter. CHFD would like to thank LFD, IFD, Dryden Depts., Bangs, Tompkins County Sheriff, and CHPD for their quick response. A special thanks goes to the 4-year old neighbor who originally spotted the fire and informed his parents who called it in. Units On Scene: 202, 231, 241, 263 901, 909 1105 Bangs Ambulance |
