CHFD Covers Overlapping Mutual Aid Calls
Saturday, 20 February was a busy day.  The first eight-hour recruit class for new recruits was held at the fire station.  Shortly after wrapping up a very condensed class, CHFD was activated on the initial dispatch of a structure fire in Freeville.  The FASTeam responded in 202 and 242 with a total of 9 FAST members.  Shortly after arriving on scene in Freeville, Lansing requested mutual aid from the Heights for a smoke condition in a house on Oakcrest Rd.  203 responded from the station with a full crew, and 202 and 242 responded upon being cleared of the scene in Freeville.  Crews assisted with overhaul and provided RIT duties in Lansing.   A total of 15 FFs responded to the two calls and there was an additional crew staffing the station.

FAST Responds to Etna

On 31 January, Etna Fire Department requested a FASTeam from Cayuga Heights for a structure fire on Niemi Rd.  Rescue Engine 202, 242, and 261 (Tamborelle) responded with a total of 11 FAST firefighters.  The team stood by until the bulk of interior operations wound down and was released without incident by command.  The FAST is reponsible for rapid intervention in the event of a firefighter down.  The focus of the team is solely on firefighter safety and rescue, and the team is specially trained and outfitted with a variety of tools to perform rescues if need be.

Movember

During November, many Cayuga Heights Firefighters participated in "Movember," a fundraiser for prostate and testicular cancer.  Movember involved growing a mustache throughout the month in order to raise awareness and funds for the cause.  CHFD's team raised over $2000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Livestrong.
Additionally, thanks to all those who came out to the presentation on prostate and testicular cancer held at the fire station on Nov. 30th, especially Dr. Cho and Former IFD Chief Wilbur.
